It’s the end of the year…time to do some serious coupon and rebate clean outs!

Tip #359

Take time to send in any rebate offers you still have hanging around your house and make sure to empty out all of your expired coupons!!  Many of them expire on 12/31/12!

What?  Seriously?  How much clutter can I clear in less than a minute?  Sounds totally unrealistic when you say it like that, but you really can take care of way more stuff than you would think in under 60 seconds!

Tip #350

Take 1 minute before you go to bed every night and put away at least 1 item!  It could be as simple as throwing something in the trash or putting it away in a drawer.  Don’t overthink it, don’t procrastinate…just do it!

1 minute?  Totally Do-able!

Start tonight!

To keep your clutter and mess at a minimum at home, make sure you …

Tip #346

Have a trash can in every room of your house!  Put trash it in!  Empty when full!

Simple!

So, driving around today, I couldn’t help but notice all the trash just thrown all over the ground near Stop signs and at the Exit ramps.  Are people really that lazy?  or do they just not care about our environment?

The landscape that is all around us…our homes, our cities, our States…need to mean more to us, in general.  Even if it doesn’t mean that much to you, think of others before you just toss trash on the ground.  Other people may actually enjoy the landscapes that surround us!

Tip #342

Take an extra few minutes to dispose of the trash from your car in the proper places!

It’s not so difficult…just make an effort to do it every time you fill up your gas tank!  It makes it an every few days or at least a weekly activity.  :-)  Keep our lands beautiful!

Throwing away trash!

I don’t know about you, but I have quite a few email addresses – for home, for fun, for work, for my side business, for family, etc.  For me, I get a bit anxious if there’s more than 100 unopened emails in any given account!  However, I have friends and family who have literally thousands of unopened emails in their accounts!

So, to start the New Year out in a positive, clean slate, kind of a mode, I’m voting we take time in the next few weeks (yes, we only have a few short weeks left of 2012!) and work on going through and doing clean up on all our email accounts!

Tip #338

Start with the email account you use most often and go through your in box to start deleting for the New Year!

You may have email from places where you got put on their email list ages ago and you just haven’t requested to be removed.  Take a few extra moments and find the link in the email (usually at the bottom) to hit “unsubscribe” from all those sites you really don’t need to visit!  Then DELETE the email. This will help you not only in the short-term cleansing, but the long-term electronic de-cluttering!

Then work your way to your least used email account and decide if you really need the account at all.  If you’re not reading the email, must not be that important.  Purging is one more way to get rid of excess mental obligations!

Go team!

Whether you are walking in your home or leaving to go do what you need to do, the space that is considered your entryway plays a huge role in how cluttered or de-cluttered your home can be.

If you walk in the door and just throw your mail, your bags or any other things you may be carrying in that area, you are setting yourself up for an organizational nightmare!  On the flip side, if you use that space wisely, you can have a functional area that can help you be more organized and remove STUFF from your home on a regular basis!

What are the essential parts of a functional entryway?  These are some ideas…you will need to adjust to fit your lifestyle…

  • A place for your keys
  • A place for your outgoing mail  (deal with your incoming mail as you receive it! don’t let it pile up)
  • A place for your briefcase, purse or pocket stuff that you will need to work with daily
  • A place for your shoes
  • A place for items that need to be taken for donation/recycling or selling

Tip #336

What does your current entryway look like?  Come up with a vision of what you would want your entryway to look like and what areas YOU would need to make it functional and practical for you.

So, just for fun…what room is the messiest room in your home?

For me, it’s definitely my office that has somehow turned into a holding room for items I need to sell (for myself or others)! In all actuality, it’s really not THAT bad, but it’s totally not how I would like it to be.

Whatever room is your problem room, we’re going to make a dent in its condition by the end of the week…and yes, I know it’s Wednesday already!  :-)

Tip #327

Go into your messiest room and spend 15 minutes tomorrow, starting with the entryway, cleaning up.  Just 15 minutes to start!

To make it a little more fun & productive, if you enjoy music, put on some music while you work!  If you work better in a team, see if you can get one of your family members or friends to hang out with you!  Do what you can to make it easier for you!

I’m sure someone somewhere has had similar feelings about relationships along the way…  There are people who try to hard to be in a relationship; there are people who try too hard to be out of a relationship.  And there are others who are just content with whatever they have or have worked out.  Where do you fall in this category?

Re-evaluate your whos, whys and how quicklys…as well as the pros and cons of being in relationships.

Tip #326

It’s never too late to re-evaluate!  Know what you want, to what extent you want it and to what degree another person may be able to provide it.

Know that single or with partner…either way is a good thing!  Enjoy what you have !  Ask for help if you need it!

As you are moving forward with trying to accomplish some goals for this year or next…it is essential that you have a vision for what you really want!

Now, if you are fortunate enough to be single, you have to have a share, clear & communicated vision that you agree upon with yourself!  Much easier!  However, if you are fortunate enough to have a partner or spouse, you still need to have your shared, clear & communicated vision!  It may be a little more difficult, but ideally, work together to come up with a vision you can both agree upon.  If you have children, try to include them too!

Tip #322

Have a vision for what you want…make it a mutual vision as needed, make sure it’s clear and understandable, then make sure it’s actually spoken and talked about!  One cannot read your mind most of the time.  :-)

If you’ve been working on organizing your space, whether home of office, over the course of the last few Simplicity Tips, then you have started sorting through your stuff!  The next piece is going a few steps further even and having like things put in the same place, kinda’ like how birds of a feather flock together!

Once you know how many of any particular item you have, then you can decide if you have more than enough and what size storage containers you’ll be needing!

Tip #312

Put all like things together…you may have to spread out a little before the process is completed, but give yourself a deadline of one week to have all the items sorted into sections!

Pens with pens; highlighters with highlighters, soups with soups, cereals with cereals!  No matter where you are, organize by likes!  :-)
