Over the course of the last four days, I truly felt as though I was living in a whole other world.  If I had been able to transport there or use a big, blue Police Box to get there, it would have completed the experience for sure!

Chicago Comic Con 2014

The Wizard World Chicago Comic Con was from August 21-24 and thousands of people in attendance.  The Comic Con culture has gotten more and more popular over the past 5 years!  People go for a variety of reasons:

  1.  Buy/sell Comics
  2.  Meet favorite celebrities (usually from Sci Fi shows in one form or another) – panels, pics and autographs
  3.  View independent films
  4.  Find other folks that are a little like themselves (geeks and nerds are totally in now!) – for friendship or maybe even dating relationships
  5.  Buy some fantastic artwork from the vendors
  6. Experience a lot of fun activities and many that are geared toward families and kids
  7. Participate in Cosplay and/or Costume contests
  8. Totally escape into another world!

There have been times in my life where I have allowed myself to become immersed into a television show and before I knew it…through its characters, principles and values… it has ultimately helped me cope with life in the real world.  For example, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series got me through a number of life experiences of my own and my loved ones – it addressed issues such as friendships, spirituality, relationships, depression, grief and addiction.  Powerful topics for a name with such a fluffy name!  🙂

Shows like Doctor Who, Star Trek Next Generation and The Walking Dead or movies like The Avengers, Captain America and The Hunger Games are all a great start!  Find your own preferred alternate reality and enjoy!

I  had set a goal to do 365 Simplicity Tips in 2012…Woo hoo!  I did it!  Hopefully, you were able to get a few ideas that will help you simplify your life – at home, at work, in relationships, de-cluttering, having balance or any other possible area of life.

Moving forward in 2013, I’m starting with taking a little break!  When writings pick back up in February, I’m thinking I will start sharing some auto-biographical, funny, sometimes political, thought-provoking essays I wrote awhile back.  🙂  I actually thought about putting them all in a book…which maybe I’ll still do someday…but in meantime, I’ll share a few here and there!

Take care all and have a happy January!  Think warm thoughts!

Tip #364

Instead of noticing everything that someone is doing wrong tomorrow…

Tip #363

Make an effort tomorrow to compliment someone (or better yet, inform their supervisor on an awesome job) on something they are doing well!

It is much easier to see what isn’t going well, so you may need to take extra care in identifying something, but…guaranteed…it can make someone’s day to hear the positive!

While there are many lessons we can learn from our pets, the one I am reminded of today by my awesome toy poodle is…  When people, life, work or whatever starts to get on your last nerve, remember to get up, shake it off and move forward!  (In her case, it’s get up, shake it off and ask for a treat, but our situation may be a little different!)

Tip #361

Keep moving forward!  Shake off the stress, anger, depression or whatever may be bogging you down today!

No really…try it!  Stand up and shake off like you’re just trying to dry off from a shower without a towel!  🙂  LOL !  It may help!

As of late, I’ve been putting in lots of focus on the ending of a year and the beginning of a new chapter in our lives…today is no different!   🙂    Part of the transition may include letting go of something/someone that may have been holding you back in 2012.  It’s a lot easier and simpler to move into the new year if you have less baggage to carry!  Time for some closure!

Stuffed baggage

Tip #360

What is one thing – person, feeling, action, etc. – that has held you back in any way in 2012?  What are you going to do to help you let go and move forward starting tomorrow?

New Year…New Resolutions?

Are you a proponent for New Year’s Resolutions? or not so much?

If you are, then now is the time to decide what you would like to change in the new year!  2013 . . . here we come!

Tip #358

For your New Year’s Resolution…consider making every day an opportunity to “resolve” and make changes!

We don’t have to wait for the once a year when the ball drops to make things happen.  Every day is a new day!  Every day is a new opportunity!

Just for fun though…what are 3 things you would like to change in 2013?  🙂

Most of the time in life, I’m all about the concept of reciprocity.  Reciprocity without keeping score that is!

However, when it comes to holidays, birthdays, special occasions, etc.  it’s not about giving so that you can receive.  It’s just about giving.

Tip #351

Check yourself and your reasons for giving!  Then if you are receiving, know that you do not have to give back gift for gift – you do not have to keep score with how many gifts are given and how many are received.  It’s ok to just receive for a minute!

If you can’t give so much right now, that’s ok!  We all have been there and really, people give when they can give.  Give from the heart and the amount or number doesn’t matter!  🙂
