It’s the end of the year…time to do some serious coupon and rebate clean outs!

Tip #359

Take time to send in any rebate offers you still have hanging around your house and make sure to empty out all of your expired coupons!!  Many of them expire on 12/31/12!

I have loved driving since far before I was old enough to drive!  Actually, let me rephrase…I have loved the independence driving allows one to feel!  Driving really just makes me tired, but the freedom it has allowed me to have throughout the years has been energizing and downright fun!

Tip #344

As cool and independent as driving feels, if we are able to make it a shared experience with someone, it will save us money, help us be more social and even help our environment!  Is there anyone you could carpool with?  To work, to events, to school?  Just a thought…

Another thoughts with today’s tip…  As we are getting older, I know giving up the car or the driver’s license can be really difficult.  I’ve seen it so many times with parents, grandparents, friends’ parents, etc…but if we start looking at  it from the carpool angle, it can help with feeling more positive about the changes that sometimes come with aging.

Just for fun…wouldn’t it be cool if you could get even half of the gifts you buy in a year FREE!?

There’s one particular deal going on right now that is easy and free to try…JC Penny has these little buttons you can get that have a code on them.  You can enter up to two buttons per day at jcp.com/christmas and could win all kinds of prizes! Mostly, I’ve won $5 Gift Certificates and $10 Gift Certificates!

Tip #339

Whether it’s the cool buttons from JCP or a coupon you get for $10 off a purchase of $10 or more from any other store, if you just go into the store and purchase an item that is $10 – it ends up being FREE!!

If you want to make your gift certificates, coupons or cash stretch even farther, be sure to shop the clearance racks!  You can find some great deals there!

Even if you don’t have a ton of money that you can save, every little bit helps!

You can start saving immediately by cutting back on what you buy – subscriptions, eating out, extra extra accessories, smoking, all of the possible premiere paid channels offered by your cable/satellite provider or heat you don’t need (in spare rooms or at times when cutting down makes sense – when you’re sleeping or at work).

Look for free gift card opportunities (like through an application called Shopkick) or reward systems like CVS Extra Care Bucks or Kroger Plus Cards!  They are awesome!  I have already gotten at least $300 in free gift cards from Shopkick alone in the past 6-9 months!

Tip #326

What are 3 ways you can start saving money today?  What is one thing you would like to do with all of the money you save?

Apparently, there were many folks that were very upset about how many stores were opening on Thanksgiving night.

Some folks were upset because they thought the earlier sales totally interrupted time with family and friends for Thanksgiving.  Others were upset because the earlier shopping hours caused longer lines.  Either way…there are a few things to consider here:

  1. How about instead of focusing all our efforts for a Thanksgiving tradition on one lone day of the year, that we make an effort to be thankful and spend time with family and friends on a regular basis?!   🙂
  2. As far as the Black Friday, super early in the morning tradition – how about we shop a little in the evening (maybe even with family or friends) and then sleep in on Black Friday!  We could even take it a little further and say”Yay!” for sharing the opportunities for shopping with more people, we can be friendly to people in lines and take an opportunity to not be selfishly pushing people out of the way to get just what WE want.  A little kindness can go a long way!

Tip #323

Be thankful…and shop early!  🙂

Tip #307

If you have great information or resources that can help your neighbors as well as yourself…share!  Work together… Collaborate…

We learn sharing from an early age as an admirable quality.  Let’s not forget this as adults!

Meanwhile, WOO HOO!!!!!

If you celebrate Christmas, it’s getting to be that time…time to make sure you’re getting your shopping done for gifts you want to give this year!  Don’t procrastinate until the last possible time to shop, like, say, Christmas Eve!  Shoppers seem to get a little crazier as the day gets closer…avoid the crowds and drama – shop now!  🙂

Just like anything else in life, it will be easier to find what you want to give, if you know who you’re giving to and have some idea of what you may want to give them!  Yes, gift cards are easy, but definitely not as personal!

Tip #305

Make your list of who you want to give gifts to this year!  Then, seriously, check it twice to see if you really need/can/want to buy gifts for everyone on that list!

Sometimes the spirit of generosity may take over and you may be tempted to spend money you really don’t have…  so, yeah, think twice about who is on your list.  This can be, in part, an exercise in self-discipline and boundary setting for you.  You may find that you could bake a batch of cookies or make a little crafty gift that may suffice for some of the folks on your list.  🙂

How do we simplify our bills in life?  Mostly, we try to make more money and spend less of it!  Even then, sometimes it seems we have way more bills than we do money!  I can’t tell you how many times it has felt like I have merely been working to pay bills!

While I’m definitely no expert on how to have a bunch of money all set and situated in your savings account, I get the main principles now that I’m a little older!  So, I’ll share a little of what I’ve learned…which by the way, other people have probably learned things differently…do what works for you!  These are just ideas here in my effort to make life simpler…

Tip # 300

If you have credit cards and loans, start by considering a consolidation loan from your bank or credit union.

This would allow you to pay off a number of your current bills and turn them into one payment, hopefully at a lower interest rate than what you would have been paying otherwise.   Lower interest rate = saving money.

Yes, I’m excited about the holidays coming up, but I’m finding that I’m really looking forward to Black Friday and Cyber Monday!  Not even sure why…I’m not planning on spending a ton of money, but it’s still a lot of fun just because of all the hype!

Are you planning on going shopping on Black Friday?  Do you have specific things you want to buy?  How about a strategic plan for your shopping trip?  🙂

Tip #298

Start planning now for Black Friday & Cyber Monday!  Have your list of who you are buying for this year, how much money you can afford to spend and what you’d like to buy first.  Then establish which stores you want to hit . . . it’s funner if you can get 2-3 other folks to go with you and then you can split up to get what you really want!  🙂

p.s.  If you do go shopping on Black Friday, try to remember to be kind to your co-shoppers!  No violence is ever necessary over merely trying to buy something!  It’s not life or death!  Be kind, be respectful, have fun and enjoy!

Personally, I am still Team Droid, but regardless of what type of phone you have, your phone will only be as useful as the user is knowledgeable!

If you don’t have a smart phone and don’t really want one, that’s cool.  It really just depends on what your needs are for your cell phone.  For some, all they want in their phone is to be able to make phone calls…period.  For others, their phones have become not only their phones, but their calendars, their cameras, their mini-computers, their music source, their tv/game/movie source and so much more!
